If you could meet your true inner self, what would s/he look like, and what would s/he tell you?
There is no such thing as a true inner self. That's just a ludicrous concept peddled by the purveyors of psychobabbling self-help books, third rate chick lit and those guides to getting on in business that are only ever carried in the briefcases of failures and also-rans.

What you see in the mirror IS who you are and what you look like. The notion that the outward world - or even oneself - cannot recognise one's true inner nature is a spurious and sometimes dangerous one. It encourages those (internet sanctioned) neuroses such as furrydom and otherkinnishness. It makes unhappy teenage girls waste their lives daydreaming they are in Twilight and that all they need is some sub-Heathcliff passive aggressive psychotic to come and recognise how secretly special they really are, when what they really need to recognise is that they are just an ordinary girl and being an ordinary girl is just fine. It's better than fine, it can be magnificent, because the coffee tastes just as good and the sun is till as warm and love is just as real for the ordinary and the plain and the not so clever.
