Talking Testes

When my student died recently I let the college put my mobile number on the student website so that if anyone wanted to share their pain they could phone the fluffy counsellor people, but if anyone needed to be told to strap up and pull themselves together they could phone me.

I had a call yesterday from a student to whose name I simply couldn't put a face who said he wanted some advice. Because he had found a lump on his testicle and didn't know what to do about it. I was somewhat bemused, but confirmed his suspicion that yes, he really would have to go to the doctor, and yes indeed, the doctor would have to look at and probably feel the lump. The only good news I could give him to mitigate the horrors of late teenage embarassment was to ensure him he would be quite within his rights to ask to see male doctor. Poor boy.

It really bugged me that I couldn't remember him, especially as term only ended four weeks ago. Then he pointed out that we had never actually met - his best mate was in my class and he suggested phoning me!

It's nice to know that blokes that have never even met me feel they can ring up and talk bollocks to me. That's just the kind of girl I am...
